Heaven, Frankiespin I am sorry about the unnecessary losses of your loved ones. I knew my question was going to be tough for you to write and for me to read. Your account and others help me galvanize my resolve to make my contribution to fight the irresponsible doctrines of the WT.

just curious. How about blood?
by never a jw ini have never been a jw, but i have lived literally surrounded by them since i married my wife, almost 20 years ago.
since i never raised a fuss before, i guess i was also brain-washed into thnking that their religion was harmless and the leaders were well intended.. i have been reading your comments for many months and have come to realize how harmful the religion is.
your comments have been mostly about the pain inflicted by shunning, deception in the literature, and the views on higher education.

Just sharing,
I have a brother JW who years ago had a stomach ulcer that started bleeding fast after a very spicy/hot meal. I believe he aggravated the whole problem by taking some over-the-counter medicine that thinned his blood. He waited for about a day to get to the emergency room from the time he started bleeding. He, as expected, refused blood. "Thank God" for great doctors, medical advances, and a compassionate health system in the U.S. He was just as good as dead had it not been for the skills and prompt treatment of those "bastards, wicked sons of Satan". Incidentally, he didn't pay a penny even though he didn't have health insurance. Again, damn those wicked governments of these systems of things who dare pay for thousands of dollars for health care to save the lives of the "chosen ones"
My brother and many JW's around the world had better survival chances, not thanks to Jehovah or the "JW hospital blood committee" (I forgot the name), but thanks to the very technology and higher education that they denigrate so much, and also, thanks to those evil sons/daughters of Satan (nurses, doctors and others who support government programs that provide the best care for free even when JW's make it unnecessarily more expensive)
Thanks for sharing first hand accounts of the harm done by the WT, especially to young, innocent lives who are given no choice in life-and-death situations.

Giordano,
apparently you don't get it or want to get it....hummm
Wher the hell did you get the idea that I don't get it?????
I think you totally misunderstood. I thank advances in medicine because in some cases allow lives of JW's to be saved, which otherwise woud have been lost as a result of the stupid, asinine, borderline murderous, irresponsible doctrine of blood. My "sigh of relief" is because at least the greatest harm done by the watchtoer in terms of numbers doesn't come from children dying from the stupidity of the doctrine. The other harms (shunning, higher education and sense of betrayal) most people recover from, death you don't recover from.

Quite interesting how the WT touts the credentials of Tistarelli. He is a professor, he is a scientist, he is the editor of three international magazines, he has writeen hundreds of scientific papers. We even get a picture of the guy. Doesn't the WT teach that universities are a place for sex and drugs, that pursuing higher education is bad because your pursue finacial gain and fame (not so bad if we make you famous through Awake articles), that your time is better invested serving Jehovah. I am confused.
So the WT finds 2 PhD's who are JW's (Furuli and Tistarelli), therefore PhD's around the world support JW's beliefs and methods, maybe?. How about a more realistic assumption, thousands or likely millions of Ph.D.'s don't support your beliefs and methods, therefore what?
2 smart guys without or with lousy evidence to support their claims (607 and evolution) versus thousands or millions of smart guys with incontrovertible evidence. Where to go?

Thanks Shilmer. I have read your informative and quite interesting blog.
Thank you stonewall for the moving experience.
It seems that the blood doctrine has claimed a lot less victims than the other asinine doctrines. In a weird way I am glad to learn that the pain the watchtower causes is mostly to people who eventually recover (e.g. shunning and deception in litearature) or at least live with some sense of resignation (higher education). It seems that great advances in technology allow doctors in many cases to get around the dangerous, borderline homicidal blood doctrine.

I have been reading your comments for many months and have come to realize how harmful the religion is. Your comments have been mostly about the pain inflicted by shunning, deception in the literature, and the views on higher education. Your comments have been so moving that I am doing my part to undermine the influence of the WT on innocent people.
However, the comments that I haven't seen are those regarding the blood doctrine causing personal pain. I know the question is tough, but I would like to know if any of you has been personally hurt, or know someone who has been hurt by the blood doctrine of the WT

Have you ever explain why the Watchtower strongly discourage higher education to non jws?
by Iamallcool inhow did you explain it to them?

It was explained to me by an elder. Just the typical stuff from the magazines These are the last days therefore focus on serving big J. In Universities sex, drugs, liquor runrampant. Higher education is pursued because people want fame, money, and prestige.

I apologize if a thread for this has been created already. I found the following in the Awake May 2013, Page 13
Earlier, in 607 B.C.E., Babylonian armies razed Jerusalem
and led most of the survivors into exile. How long
would the Jews be held? God said: “When seventy years
have been fulfilled I shall call to account against the king
of Babylon and against that nation . . . and I will make it
desolate wastes to time indefinite.”—Jeremiah 25:12.
As mentioned, Cyrus captured Babylon in 539 B.C.E.
Soon thereafter, he released the Jews, who began to arrive
in their homeland in 537 B.C.E.—exactly 70 years after
their deportation. (Ezra 1:1-4) As for Babylon, it eventually
became “desolate wastes”—again confirming the
accuracy of Bible prophecy.
The writer contradicts himself within two paragraphs. Is it 70 years for Babylon (fulfillment in 539 BCE) or is it 70 years of exile (fulfillment in 537 BCE)
The writer could have used the more questionable WT translation of Jer 29:10, but he decided to use the "wrong" verse instead (Jer 25:12).
WHY???
Jeremiah 29:10 For this is what Jehovah has said, ‘In accord with the fulfilling of seventy years at Babylon I shall turn my attention to ? YOU ? people, and I will establish toward ? YOU ? my good word in bringing ? YOU ? back to this place.’

I am sure I am missing the joke. What is all this about Andre that I hear so much. As far as I can go, it seems that the WT used a fictitious chracter and passed it as real to the rank and file. Any link that may help me partake of the joke?
